Works on this heritage medical building included the construction of a larger waiting room, an airlock to stop the wind blowing in, to be wheelchair and scooter friendly and to keep operating throughout the works. The builder worked closely with heritage advisors, planning departments and designers to execute the solution for the clients. As the builder was involved right from the start, and having to conform to local laws and regulations, solutions were sought early, resulting in building the airlock under the heritage bullnose veranda, keeping the appearance original.
This home flows seamlessly from the front door through a wide entryway into the heart of the home. The large open plan kitchen and meals area is an ideal place for the family to relax and play, featuring an accessible study and family area enjoying direct access to the outside alfresco, creating even more entertainment space. A separate living room provides for quieter entertainment. A three bedroom wing to the rear of the home Is ideal for privacy, situated away from the spacious master suite located at the front of the house.

The formal lounge and study is located off the entry along with the master bedroom, complete with a large ensuite. A step- down from the entry leads to the family, dining and kitchen displaying a raised and raked ceiling, highlight windows, a modern kitchen with a concrete benchtop and polished concrete floors. This home also enjoys a rumpus room and a two-way gas fireplace, separating the living/dining area. The merbau deck looks out over the rear of the property, a great entertaining area, and is linked to the kitchen and dining area. The two family bedrooms are complete with built in robes.
The brief called for a “forever home” that suits the individual needs of the clients. The home is small in space but speaks volume in aesthetics. Accommodation comprises two bedrooms, ensuite and living space for the grandkids to enjoy. A spacious kitchen with state- of- the- art appliances and fully equipped butler’s pantry, acts as a seamless interface between internal and external zones. Fantastic innovations were used throughout this project, including louvered clerestory windows on all walls, perforated mesh screens designed for ultimate privacy, but can be folded back for entertaining options, and timber walls that roll back to act as privacy screens, or blinds on hot summer days.
The builder worked with heritage advisors, planning departments and designers to meet the client’s need to create more space, an airlock to stop the wind blowing in and easy access for wheel chairs and to be scooter friendly. As the medical practice needed to keep open, it was imperative that public and practice staff were kept away from the construction through an alternative entry and working out of hours.
