We remind members that the Building Regulations 2018 will come into effect as of 2 June 2018.
Building permits issued as of this date require that a building surveyor must nominate the mandatory notification stages for the construction or alteration of a building.
These provisions now require that a building surveyor must cause a fire and smoke resisting building element to be included as a mandatory inspection on the building permit.
This change is relevant to buildings that are of Class 2,3,4,9a and 9c type buildings.
Be mindful of these new requirements and discuss this with the building surveyor who has issued your building permit prior to commencing building work to ensure you comply with this new regulatory requirement.
NOTE: The Victorian Building Authority has just posted an information sheet about mandatory inspection of certain fire and smoke resisting building elements here.
