From today, the Victorian Government is expanding the eligibility for solar PV rebates and interest-free loans to include property owners building new homes.
Solar Victoria consulted with the building and construction industry prior to today’s changes.
MBV’s consultation helped shape the scheme to improve the practicality for our industry.
We are pleased to support such a program on behalf of members.
The relationship between builders, customers and solar retailers will be vital to the success of this expansion to the program, with around 40,000 new homes built in Victoria each year.
The expanded scheme will also help to promote sustainable practices in the building and construction industry, future-proof our built environment, and take the pressure off existing energy systems.
Under the changes, eligible Victorians building homes can apply for a rebate of $1,400 and access a $1,400 interest-free loan to install solar panels during the construction of a new home.
The Victorian Government states the changes will save homeowners up to $800 on installation costs by fitting panels as they wire electricity to their new homes and an average of $1,073 each year in energy costs.
This financial year, 64,000 Victorian Government rebates are available for solar PV systems.
Applicants must use a Solar Victoria authorised retailer and install a product on the approved products list to qualify for the rebate.
