Master Builders Victoria was delighted to participate in yesterday’s Conversation Hour on ABC Radio on a 60-minute show titled “Could contract changes help Victoria’s building crisis”.
MBV Director of Policy and Media Megan Peacock joined hosts Warrick Long and Mikaela Ortolan to debate whether contract changes could help Victorian builders struggling with supply chain challenges and cost escalations in key materials such as timber and steel.
With homes across Victoria left half-built as a rising number of building companies become insolvent, the program heard from a selection of homeowners, builders, and MBV to cover this complex issue.
With prices to build or renovate a home skyrocketing in the past year due to materials shortages and lack of tradespeople, the program also asked whether the Victorian Government's HomeBuilder Grant was a blessing or a curse.
It also discussed whether flexible contracts or compensation schemes could help to protect builders and homeowners from further financial distress.
We thank ABC Radio for covering this important issue from all perspectives and including MBV on the program.
