A stunning Albury home and a sparkling new secondary college in Shepparton received top honours at the 2022 North East Master Builders Victoria Regional Building Awards tonight.
Scott James Builder was named North East Residential Regional Builder of the Year for overcoming the challenge of designing a spectacular family home on a steep in-fill site.
Meanwhile, Hansen Yuncken Pty Ltd was named North East Commercial Regional Builder of the Year for constructing a new government secondary school.
More than 130 guests attended the awards ceremony at the Commercial Club in Albury.
MBV CEO Rebecca Casson congratulated Scott James Builder and Hansen Yuncken Pty Ltd on their success.
Sited below Albury's landmark War Memorial, Ms Casson said it was fitting that the winning home built by Scott James Builder sat respectfully and quietly in its privileged location.
"This was a rare opportunity for a builder to design and build a new home from scratch on a site with sweeping views across central Albury," she said.
"The house is organised around a series of terraces that step down from the street towards the town centre.
"On the uppermost level is a guest bedroom and ensuite. Below this is a large open-plan kitchen and living zone, with more living and bedrooms on the ground floor.
"This exquisite home also includes a cellar and gymnasium."
Ms Casson praised Scott James Builder for overcoming the challenge of designing and building a large family home on a sloping site.
"The solution to this challenging problem was major excavation creating a series of five tiers over the site," Ms Casson said.
"Maximising northern sun for solar access, capturing easterly views, and maintaining privacy from neighbours also required great thoughtfulness.
"From the floor coverings to material changes, there is tremendous forethought and planning in executing all work in this beautiful home.
"Whether it is the grooved vaulted ceiling, the stone-clad fireplace, the cobble-stone driveway, large format porcelain tiles - all inclusions are of a premium quality and speak of understated luxury."
Scott James Builder will compete in the Victorian Excellence in Housing Awards on October 14 at The Palladium at Crown in Melbourne.
Meanwhile, Ms Casson said Commercial Regional Builder of the Year Hansen Yuncken Pty Ltd had once again excelled.
She said the new Greater Shepparton Secondary College brought together the existing school communities of Shepparton High School, Wanganui Park Secondary College, Maguire Secondary and Mooroopna Secondary College.
"The new Greater Shepparton Secondary College involved demolishing the existing Shepparton High School and constructing a new government secondary school to support 2700 students," Ms Casson said.
"The school site was developed around the Enterprise and Innovation Centre surrounded by three neighbourhoods.
"Each neighbourhood comprises three houses, which act as the home base to 300 students and their associated teaching, leadership and support staff."
Ms Casson said refurbishing the existing Shepparton High School building was another addition to the building scope.
"This incorporated a two-level strip and fit-out to provide a health and wellbeing centre and additional staff workstations," she said.
"The new gymnasium comprises two Netball Australia compliant courts, learning spaces, dedicated weights and movement room, change/toilets and storage."
Hansen Yuncken Pty Ltd will compete in the Victorian Excellence in Construction Awards on August 12 at The Palladium at Crown.
