If you currently build commercial buildings in Victoria directly for a client you are probably aware that you need to be registered. Alternatively, if you are primarily a domestic builder and considering diversifying into more commercial works, you need to be aware of changes that may affect you.

The process of applying for registration as a Commercial Builder is about to change.

The VBA introduced a new Commercial Builder Application Form on 8 July 2016. The changes mainly affect the required layout of work history information and supporting documents.

The VBA has also released a useful new practitioner guide, “What is Commercial Building work?.”

The VBA understands that prospective builders may be already well advanced with the preparation of their submission, so they will continue to accept applications prepared under the previous system until Wednesday 31 August 2016.

If you have been compiling your application under the previous system, and have completed more than 80 per cent of the required documents, we strongly recommend that you complete any outstanding information as soon as possible and submit your application to Master Builders for review.

The deadline for submitting the superseded application to Master Builders for review is Monday 22 August 2016.

This will give our builder registration team sufficient time to review your application and provide you with feedback, so that you can make any amendments and submit your application to the VBA by their deadline.

Come along to our Commercial Builder Registration Workshop on Monday 8 August from 9.30 – 11.30 am at East Melbourne to hear about the new application requirements.

Call the Builder Registration team on (03) 9411 4555 for further workshop dates or advice about your individual situation.
