Victorian Master Builders were selected as winners in multiple award categories at Master Builders National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards in Canberra on Thursday 24 at the Great Hall, Parliament House.

Kane Constructions Pty Ltd received top honours as National Commercial Master Builder of the Year and recipient of the National Commercial/Industrial Construction Award $20-30 million for its work on the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre, a distinctively domed edifice offering a compelling new space while simultaneously reinvigorating heritage architecture.

“In addition to its striking form, the building’s respect for the original architecture of the old library makes the strongest impression,” Master Builders Association of Victoria CEO Radley de Silva said. “Succeeding with a major renovation of a heritage building is an enormous challenge, and Kane has scored a big win for the community of Geelong.”

“On Master Builders’ 141st anniversary, we are very fortunate to have high-calibre projects such as this one to demonstrate the significance of Victoria’s building and construction industry and contribute to its distinguished heritage.” Mr de Silva said.

Builder David Moyle of Ballarat Construction Management has earned the title of 2016 WoodSolutions National Young Builder of the Year.

“David exemplifies the enthusiasm and single-mindedness that leads our industry to thrive and achieve great things,” Master Builders Association of Victoria CEO Radley de Silva said. “He has been a standout member of our Board of Management and Chair of our Country Sector Committee.”

The challenges of technically complex buildings appeal to him, and he tackles them with orderly professionalism and positive energy,” Mr de Silva said. “It is no surprise that he is entrusted regularly with big-ticket domestic projects with high expectations. He delivers on them.

“Master Builders is delighted to recognise Kane Constructions, David Moyle and all of our Victorian award winners as representative of our industry’s important connection to our Victorian communities,” Mr de Silva said.
