Master Builders Association of Victoria invites you to a second briefing on the Federal Building Code to be delivered by Master Builders in conjunction with Ashurst Lawyers and Cathy Cato, General Manager, Federal Building Code.

Drug and alcohol management under the Building Code 2013

On 16 October the Federal Building Code was amended to include requirements relating to the management of alcohol and drugs.

The Master Builders Association of Victoria and Ashurst Lawyers are conducting a briefing which is intended to assist contractors with understanding these new requirements and what needs to be done to comply with them.

The briefing will address the following topics:

• A brief recap on the Building Code 2013 and when it applies
• An overview of the new drug and alcohol management requirements
• Discussion of legal risks of not having a robust approach to drug and alcohol testing
• Issues with the Drug and Alcohol Management Plan recently endorsed by the Building Industry Group
• MBAV’s template Drug and Alcohol Management Plan
• The regulator’s perspective

The briefing will be presented by John Darcy (Manager, Occupational Health & Safety at MBAV), Steven Amendola (Partner, Ashurst), Dom Fleeton (Senior Associate, Ashurst) and Cathy Cato (General Manager – Building Code from Fair Work Building & Construction). Cathy will speak about the regulator’s perspective on the new requirements including in relation to enforcement.
