Two energy efficiency and sustainability rating schemes were recently launched that will aid builders to showcase their homes and renovations that exceed the minimum standards.

Green Star Home Certification

It's great to see some of our larger volume builders' partner with the Green Building Council of Australia on the new Green Star Home Standard certification system.

A system that increases the understanding and awareness for consumers in the benefits of building healthier, more comfortable and sustainable homes produces positive results on many levels.

Victorian Home Energy Scorecard:

Master Builders welcomes the adoption of the Victorian Home Energy Scorecard as a national tool to measure, compare and improve the energy efficiency of existing houses.

This sits beside the current NatHERS (Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme) that is used for new houses.

Consumers can now see how their home compares to others and develop a plan to effectively renovate their home to improve the comfort, healthiness and energy efficiency of their home.

For builders it provides a method of measuring how well their renovation has improved comfort and energy efficiency of the home.

Backed by trained and accredited national scorecard assessors an existing home star rating and detailed certificate is provided to the householder, that includes advice on opportunities for improvement.

The finance sector is also getting involved with Bank Australia’s Clean Energy Home Loan using the scorecard to determine eligibility for discounted home finance.
