Learn More About Master SuppliersAn exercise in the bespoke and making difficult concepts effortless. All parts of the build required custom approaches. Materials used are a combination of block, blackbutt and Barestone (cement) sheeting. Topping slabs have been laid over an insulated structural slab, that has in-floor hydronic heating for comfort. Water tanks, drainage and retaining walls are concealed. Doors disappear into walls; windows are set flush and the ceiling rakes above. From the free-standing bath to the retractable flyscreens, all aspects of this custom build prioritise quality and longevity. Enormous commercial top hung glazing units glide effortlessly. Giant sheets of porcelain panel line the bathroom walls. Benchtops are rugged concrete Caesarstone.
The facility is a single storey, steel framed, brick veneer construction with typical hospital finishes throughout, built upon a concrete slab on bored piers. Adjacent to the new building is a new carpark and landscaping. Construction of this facility occurred within an operational army barracks and with a coordinated proactive approach to the build no issues were incurred. Early works involved the removal and relocation of overhead power lines, and the removal and remediation of an existing underground storage tank. The slabs were poured over 4 sessions. This stage approach allowed for the electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic services rough to commence in the other stages. Some pours commenced as early as 3am to allow the concrete curing before the heat of an Albury/Wodonga summer day.
The scope of works for this project was derived by the client’s needs to use the space differently and needing the house to grow and evolve with them. Originally built over 10 years ago, the three-bedroom, three living space home required updating to better suit their growing family needs. The wish list included transforming an underutilised living space into a fourth bedroom and extensive walk-in linen cupboard. The extension included a flowing family space and outdoor entertaining area that enhanced the yard and pool area. The kitchen and laundry were also getting a makeover, ensuring they blended nicely with the new spaces.
This home has been designed to accommodate a growing family while adding a light-filled kitchen, living, family room and alfresco area for entertaining. The clients wanted to keep some original features of the existing home, which adds to the character and warmth, while the new additions where carefully selected so that the new and old blended together seamlessly. Front windows were restored as was the entry door. The existing two fireplaces were renewed and remained in the study and lounge room.
This home offers the functionality and comfort for contemporary family living. The design had to fit on a smaller block without compromising space with the inclusion of a front verandah and timber deck. The main bedroom features a luxurious ensuite and a separate living space to create a 'parents retreat'. The laundry with its walk-in linen cupboard creates an internal entry point of the home. The spa bath in the main bathroom compliments the luxury feeling as does the spacious powder room. In designing this home, storage was maximised. Quality Caesarstone benchtops and SMEG appliances feature in the kitchen, while the outdoor entertaining area boasts its own sink, preparation bench area and TV point.

Two of the main external features of the cottage, the stone fireplace and redgum corner posts and window architraves have been used to tie the cottage back into the original homestead. The cottage features open plan living, kitchen and dining room, which capitalises on the broken river frontage view, as does the main bedroom and ensuite. There is also a second bathroom to accompany the second bedroom. The large 50sqm easterly deck again captures the stunning river frontage views & absorbs the beautiful morning north-east sunshine. The design also included raw timber sourced across their family property.
Positioned on the outer edges of Violet Town, this home sits within the landscape beautifully. Designed to capture the expansive views from the ground floor while the second storey takes advantage of the Strathbogie Ranges. The home needed to be fully off the grid and self-sustainable and within budget; sustainable products were a key factor in this build. The recycled railway sleeper deck continues into the outdoor and indoor kitchens; the wood fire oven fuels the hydronic heating system throughout the house including the hot water service. Another wood-fuelled heater is positioned in the living area to ensure the owners keep warm over the cooler months. The owners were inspired to capture the rural landscape as they are generational sheep farmers that produce lamb and wool. The site is perched on the crown of a hill north of Holbrook. The house was positioned to oversee the thousand-acre estate. The homestead was designed and built for the generations to come; it’s purpose to be passed down the family lineage. It is a timeless design that respects the environment. The clients wanted a classically rural design that was layered in contemporary textures and elements, which boasted the floor plan to suit modern family life. It also needed to be adaptable to expand with multiple occupants and then zone down as the children move out.
A high level of skill was required to establish foundations, frame, and clad this building to the design requirements and in good time. And a high level of skill and craftmanship was involved in the internal fit-out and joinery installation. The foundations were established on steeply sloping rocky ground, the frame was custom designed two-storey structure built to tolerate snow loading and cyclonic conditions. The external cladding was all installed to satisfy the BAL40 requirements of Mt. Hotham, and the joinery and fit-out was all designed and custom built. All these tasks were all undertaken and very well executed by members of Ground Up Earth Builders team.
The East House offered a rare opportunity in regional centres, to collaborate with one of Australia's leading architects, on a home where size was not the driver but rather craftmanship, quality, innovation, and sustainability. Sited in an established neighbourhood, the compact home manages to be a spatial marvel, packed with surprise and features. Built over two levels, there are two bedrooms with ensuites, a study and multiple living spaces. There's no plasterboard to be seen, having been shunned for more robust, textured, and warmer materials. A seriously impressive home, that maximises every inch and sits quietly and respectfully in its surroundings. An exercise in the bespoke and making difficult things look simple.
The project brief was to design and construct a turn-key two townhouses development. Each townhouse includes three good-sized bedrooms, two bathrooms, a walk-in wardrobe in the main bedrooms walk-in and through pantries, a study nook, double lock-up garages, an alfresco under main roof, landscaping, fencing, driveways, and paths. A lot of consideration and planning of service connections was needed with new power, water and gas connections all required to be under bored from across the road, which required multiple authorities to try and work in with each other. The sewer easement runs down the full length of the right-side boundary, located at a depth of 6m. Both slabs were designed incorporating bored piers, some up to 6m deep; the rear townhouses garage slab was design to bridge over the easement, again requiring some extremely deep piers.

To connect the new learning HUB with the existing Flexi building, which shares identical exterior design, a new undercover link was also constructed.
