Marcus Oldham, has built an enviable reputation for preparing business leaders who pursue successful careers in agriculture, agribusiness, and equine management, demanding a high-class construction, and professional execution across both construction and project management. Its complex design focused upon the internal and external architectural details. This can be seen in the use of external materials integrated indoors and the use of conventional products in unique ways such as the pressed metal ceiling used on intricate angles instead of flat. It was demonstrated by the sheer number of hours spent designing the structural steel shop drawings with a total of over 3000 hours dedicated to the intricate and innovative design.
Renovation and restoration of a heritage listed home situated on the Geelong waterfront. A complete gutting of the original dwelling was undertaken to transform this once dated two-bedroom, one-bathroom home. Not restricted by its 303sqm land size, the double storey home is made up of three large bedrooms, two bathrooms, open plan living, dining and kitchen, and does not hold back on the extras with a generous butler’s pantry and laundry with complex cabinetry, expansive outdoor alfresco and master bedroom walk-in wardrobe. The rear of the home opens onto a grand timber deck built around a 10-metre-tall palm tree that provides shade from the northern sunlight while the complete opening of 2.7-meter-high double-glazed windows and doors create an indoor/outdoor living area, an entertainer’s paradise.
This project was an extensive restoration and extension to an existing 1800s incredibly run down home. Keeping the footprint of the original house, it was extended in four sections. The first addition was to create a luxury ensuite and walk-in wardrobe to the master bedroom, the second addition was an extension to the kitchen to create formal dining and living areas and then the creation of a new linkway to the existing stables. The stables were restored and extended to create a new mudroom, laundry, store, and powder room. The final extension was to the garage to double its size, allowing for a full functioning workshop and new carport; the existing home was fully restored, and a brand-new kitchen and bathroom replaced the old.

This beautiful new home was designed by Peter Rechenberg. The design is a three-level modern coastal home with large south-facing windows that allow for commanding ocean views and coastal aspects. Dincel blocks were used as a waterproof retaining wall system, which was a pivotal decision based on the slope and challenging aspects of the block creating integrity within the foundations of the build. A vehicle turntable within the garage and the elevator are a few of the many details in the home that add a touch of luxury and convenience for the homeowners. Inverted Colorbond cladding, tiled balcony, engineered hardwood flooring and stunning kitchen joinery compliment the limestone feature walls and fireplace. Frank Street is a cohesive collection of six unique residences designed for the evolving lifestyles of modern Newtown, Geelong. Distinct facades respectfully blend tradition with contemporary architecture. The original site was subdivided into six lots of approximately 400sqm each. This high-quality sustainable house has been designed so it doesn’t need to rely on any external main services for the building to function. The house is able to function entirely on batteries which are charged by the on-site solar panels. A sustainable worm farm septic system was installed to minimise the impact of the waste on the surrounding farming land. The house faces True North and not Magnetic North, which is crucial to maximising the solar gain during winter and maximising thermal mass within the house.
The Keeping Place design is a modern representation of a traditional keeping place structure that the local indigenous community have been building for thousands of years, however on a larger scale. The 1500+ timber battens of the dome are laid over an impervious membrane to protect the artefacts that will be housed within. The Keeping Place itself encompasses a mechanical ventilation system that controls temperature and humidity and provides a museum-like environment that is required to protect the significant cultural artefacts that are displayed. An illuminated prism is a key feature at the roof of the Keeping Place that was constructed on the ground and lifted into position. The prism is lit from below and best resembles a lighthouse. There is only one straight external wall in the more traditional office / business spaces, with all other facades being curved.
The building provides a bespoke yet fit-for-purpose office and business centre for Gundidtj Mirring that allows them to service the increased volume of tourism arising from the Budj Bim regions being granted World Heritage status. The roof line is in wave formation, to represent a creek, which the area is known for. The wave in the building goes up hill, keeping with the natural landscape, which overlooks the Budj Bim national park. The building is designed to merge into the landscape, using muted colours, rammed earth, timber, and locally sourced rocks. The hut is a replica of an original Gunditj Mirring Aboriginal hut and is made using natural materials that represent how this would have been constructed historically.
The quality of construction is second to none, both internally and externally. The build includes triple skin brickwork, imported stone and ornate ceilings, five-star restaurant quality common area and amenities and New York-style grand entrance. The Beckley Project creates space that not only the Cotton On Group employees can enjoy on a day-to-day basis but also to create an incredible sense of arrival to the Cotton On Global Head Office for their guests and visitors, many of whom are international guests. The creative team behind the design worked closely with the key stakeholders at Cotton On to ensure the product was delivered to the highest standard with an immense focus on welcome, execution and detail.
