Metricon and Lyons Construction were given top honours on Friday 15 June  at the South West Master Builders Regional Building Awards, held at The Pier, Geelong.

Metricon was named Residential Builder of the Year (South West) for its execution of a two-storey single family home at Point Lonsdale that captures the bracing freshness of coastal weather within a cool, sculpted environment with architectural flourish.

“This home fits right in with others that embrace a contemporary beach-home aesthetic,” Master Builders Association of Victoria CEO Radley de Silva said.

“The details are clean and quietly luxurious, and appear throughout the home in ways that explore the architecture while enveloping the resident,” Mr de Silva said.

Lyons Construction was named Commercial Builder of the Year (South West) for its work on the Star of the Sea Aged Care Facility in Torquay. Constructed for Villa Maria Catholic Homes as an extension to the previously completed retirement village consisting of 70 private villas. The facility includes 96 bedrooms, a commercial kitchen, serveries, a café, reception area, a chapel and a dedicated ward for the special needs of dementia sufferers.

“The special needs of the elderly are too often given short shrift when it comes to their living quarters, so the judges were impressed with the care and attention directed to providing a well-built and designed facility to help them feel at home,” Mr de Silva said. “It offers a bright and uplifting living environment.”

Metricon will now compete in the Victorian Excellence in Housing Awards to be held on 12 October in Melbourne. Lyons Construction will compete in the Victorian Excellence in Construction Awards to be held on 10 August.
