Nichols Dobbie, a cabinet-making and joinery apprentice from Dalyston, has received Master Builders’ Gippsland Section Training Provider Apprentice of the Year Award at the Premier Function Centre, Traralgon, on Thursday night.
Nichols was among three apprentices from the Gippsland region to be awarded for their dedication, skill and hard work.
The other two winners were carpenter Blake Ward from Traralgon (Employer-nominated Award) and Chairman’s Award winner Colin McPhee, a bricklayer/blocklayer from Leongatha.
Master Builders Victoria CEO Rebecca Casson praised the commitment and diligence of the 2020 nominees, recognising that many of a builder’s achievements go undetected by those who are not closely involved with their daily work.
“Apprentices earn these awards by demonstrating a commitment to their craft and professional behavior over a long period of time. Apprentices are rightly excited about the recognition they’re receiving, and what it says about the direction of their careers,” Ms Casson said.
“Apprentices are the future of our industry, and central to the vitality and livability of each corner of our state,” she said.
“The demand for building talent grows in tandem with Victoria’s population, which continues to expand at the fastest rate in the nation.”
“Nurturing careers in building and construction not only helps hardworking people establish rewarding careers, but it represents a smart and long-lasting investment in the communities they serve.”
“The building and construction sector is the largest full-time employer in the Victorian economy, so this is a great time to launch a career,” Ms Casson said. “Opportunities and rewards are plentiful, and there has never been a better time to pursue them.”
“Master Builders Victoria takes great pride in these apprentices and in the outstanding, award-winning training we provide to builders throughout their careers.”
Regional winners are selected after an interview with a panel of three judges. Winners are invited to the State
Apprentice of the Year Awards on Thursday 7 May in Melbourne where the overall winners will be announced.
