Master Builders Victoria (MBV) met members face to face in Traralgon last night as it hosted its latest Advisory Roadshow.
Local builders and tradespeople attended the Traralgon Vineyard event to hear from Master Builders team members and have their questions answered.
With just two Advisory Roadshow events remaining, the MBV team has travelled to all four corners of the state to hear what's on members' minds.
MBV Acting CEO Megan Peacock said with supply chain issues, rising material costs and labour shortages continuing to impact building works across the state, it was important for MBV to listen to members' concerns in person.
"Supply shortages are one of the most pressing issues facing the building and construction industry, and we heard last night about the situation facing our members in Gippsland," Ms Peacock said.
"MBV has consistently advocated that the best way to protect consumers and help prevent further insolvencies is to protect builders.
"That's why MBV has continued to advocate to the Victorian Government to include rise and fall clauses in domestic building contracts.
"We continue encouraging consumers to be kind and patient with builders during these unprecedented times.
"Builders are the lifeblood of the Victorian economy, and we remain confident that the building and construction industry will overcome these challenges and continue to be the cornerstone of Victoria's economy."
Ms Peacock said the Advisory Roadshow included presentations from MBV subject matter experts, providing essential information and practical advice to members.
Last night also allowed the MBV team to advise members of the latest National Construction Code (NCC) changes.
MBV was pleased to share with members that building ministers had recently confirmed that the National Construction Code (NCC) 2022 will be published on 1 October 2022 with a delayed implementation date of 1 May 2023.
Additionally, there will be a transition period for the two significant reforms: Livable housing and the 7-star energy efficiency and condensation provisions.
These two parts of the code will not have legal effect until at least 1 October 2023.
Ms Peacock said MBV was committed to continued proactive engagement with our members, providing expert advice on legal matters, OH&S, employment and industry relations advice, and the latest updates on energy efficiency.
"It is also crucial for our members to know how to access MBV support when needed," she said.
"Through these events, we provide insights and advice on critical industry challenges such as supply chain issues and skill shortages, as well as networking opportunities to grow strong industry relationships locally and statewide.
"We look forward to finalising our 2022 Advisory Roadshow series in the coming weeks."
Ms Peacock said the final two advisory roadshows were planned in Ballarat (September 28) and Ringwood (October 25).
