Master Builders Victoria (MBV) can confirm that a positive COVID-19 case was reported by a cleaner employed by a subcontractor on the Probuild site at 100 Queen St last night.

MBV understands that this cleaner was engaged solely at this site. The Department of Health (DoH) was contacted last night, and their outbreak team is managing the case.

They have already started interviews and have been in regular contact with ProBuild. It will take some time for DoH to designate whether the site may be classified as Tier 1, 2, or a hybrid.

The site is now closed and undergoing a thorough deep clean. The DoH advice for all staff and subcontractor employees is to get tested immediately and isolate, pending assessment and further instructions.

Anyone who visited the site between May 31 and June 4 has also been instructed to get tested and isolate immediately.

The building and construction industry has a good track record of managing COVID-19.

This is the first positive COVID-19 case on a site since September 2020, and is a transmission from a community source.

Nevertheless, this case is a reminder that, to ensure our sector remains safe and open, everyone in the building and construction industry should follow the COVID-19 Industry Guidelines and make sure that the Government’s QR code is used.
