The Advisory Committee on Improving Stormwater Management, to which Master Builders provided a submission, has concluded in its consultation that strong evidence and support exists to improve stormwater management and encourage Integrated Water Management (IWM) in Victoria.
As such, the Victorian Government has announced its plan to introduce the following short-term planning reforms as advised by the committee:
- New provisions, under the Victorian Planning Provisions (VPP), to expand the current stormwater management requirements to:
- Commercial subdivisions and developments
- Industrial subdivisions and developments
- Public use developments
- Residential multi-dwelling subdivisions and developments.
- A new Integrated Water Management clause in the state’s Planning Policy framework (PPF) to embed IWM objectives and strategies into urban land-use planning.
The Government also supports, in principle, the committee’s long-term recommendations and will work with stakeholders on how best to deliver them.
The changes will come into effect once it has been gazetted by the government. Master Builders will update members once the date has been determined.
