Todd Newman Builders and Hansen Yuncken Pty Ltd received top honours at the Northern Master Builders Regional Building Awards, held at the Commercial Club in Albury on Friday 22 June.

Todd Newman Builders was named Residential Builder of the Year (Northern) for a third year in a row, this time for building a double-storey home in Bendigo that reveals its numerous merits only to those who enter.

The home includes four bedrooms, master suite including wall-to-wall joinery and a light-filled ensuite with clerestory windows, a study and gymnasium.

“One of the impressive details about this home is the way the builders made excellent use of the graphic character inherent in the natural materials of surfaces and joinery,” Master Builders Victoria CEO Radley de Silva said. “The dark veins and threads in the stone, for example, become part of the visual structure of spaces.”

Hansen Yuncken Pty Ltd was named Commercial Builder of the Year (Northern) for its work on the Bendigo Kangan Institute Health and Community Centre of Excellence.

“Outstanding features of this project include the simulation labs that create highly realistic work environments for the students—hospital wards and ensuites, aged-care wards, pathology wings and early-childhood centres,” Mr de Silva said.

“These kinds of facilities help to meet the urgent needs of our aging and rapidly growing population in Victoria,” he said.

Todd Newman Builders will now compete in the Victorian Excellence in Housing Awards to be held on 12 October in Melbourne. Hansen Yuncken Pty Ltd will compete in the Victorian Excellence in Construction Awards to be held on 10 August.
