Each year there are two big nights on the Master Builders calendar where we celebrate and recognise the leaders in our industry. On 17 October we will honour the innovators in the housing industry at the Excellence in Housing Awards. With an exciting line-up of both nominees and entertainment this is a night not to be missed.

Among the nominees this year are many consistent performers including Porter Davis, Simonds and Grollo Homes as well as some stand out regional performers like Larkin & Drought and Everclear Constructions. We also look forward to seeing how sustainable builders like Positive Footprints and GJ Gardner perform.

The event will be held at the luxurious Palladium at Crown with Australian actor Stephen Curry of ‘The Castle’ fame to host. Melbourne’s premier pop/dance outfit Chloe Maggs Band will entertain the crowd into the wee hours while Model Holly McSweeney will greet guests on the ‘blue carpet’, providing ample photo opportunities.

As renovations and additions become an ever increasing source of work for many of our housing members, we thought it appropriate to preview some of the nominees in the Best Renovation/Addition $750,000 to $1million category.

The nominees are:

  • Armadillo Homes (Project: Elwood)
  • Kleev Homes (Project: Northcote)
  • Damer Builders (Project: Kew)

Armadillo Homes

Armadillo Homes, Elwood lo res

Project: Elwood

This two-level solid brick, 1920s residence had been unsympathetically and destructively renovated over the years. What was once a signature property in a prime location had lost its character and purpose. The vision was to restore the spirit of the home in a way that honoured its past through a modern and innovative interpretation of a family home.

Kleev Homes Pty Ltd

Kleev-Homes,-Northcote-lo-res

Project: Northcote

This project consisted of a unique renovation with a new design intervention within and on top an existing warehouse shell. It involved a huge renovation and extension of what used to be part of Westgarth Hall.

Damer Builders

Damer-Builders,-Kew-lo-res

Project: Kew

This project required the demolition of part of an existing residence and restoration/renovation of the existing home area. A basement was constructed under the rear family/meals area and a new open area was added to the ground floor that included the kitchen, family and meals areas.

Date: Friday, 17 October
Time: From 6.15pm
Venue: Palladium, Crown
