Master Builders member Peter Seccull knows a lot about building, and his career is the focus of a recent five-page story in Coast magazine. With over 50 years in the industry he has tackled just about everything from low- and high-end residential dwellings to hospitals and entertainment venues, and is particularly known for the design and construction of many iconic houses in South and West Gippsland.

One could say it all began with making surfboards, which he took up after leaving school at the age of 15. But most likely his career began when he started working for his relatives at JR & E Seccull three years later; that phase began with starting at the Dental Hospital, which had just been demolished, and finished up at the Alfred Hospital.

From there, he went on to start his own company, Lipp Seccull Developments (LSD), with Joe Lipski where they built houses for the Segals, Edlesteins, Hubays and Sangsters among others. And over the next two years they began building clubs and pubs after finishing The Chasers nightclub on Chapel Street. Their reputation preceded them and they were soon asked to build a pub in Traralgon – Ryan’s Hotel.

In 1981, Peter decided it was time to move his family to the country, so they settled in Woodside where they lived for nearly 20 years.

When work began to dry up in Traralgon, Peter set his sights on Inverloch, where he now lives with his family, designing and constructing top-range houses with his sons Adrian and Andrew.

Peter Seccull and Coastal Property Developments have now been members of Master Builders Association of Victoria for the past 30 years.
