The lead up to the November State Election looks like being a most eventful one for both major sides of politics.
Front of mind for those working in the building and construction industry will be questions about what the major parties have to offer in terms of planning reform, housing affordability and stimulating the economy.
With this in mind, Master Builders has asked Opposition Leader Daniel Andrews to address members at the next Industry Breakfast on Thursday, 11 September at the MCG.
At the breakfast, the Opposition Leader will discuss a range of Labor initiatives including the ambitious Project 10,000 and Plan for Jobs and Growth.
Project 10,000 seeks to achieve a number of goals including:
- Removal of the 50 worst level crossings in Victoria.
- Building Melbourne Metro Rail.
- Creating 10,000 construction jobs.
“We’re spending more and more time stuck in traffic or on trains, and less time with family,” Mr Andrews said.
“Labor will remove 50 level crossings, double the size of the City Loop, transform our public transport system and get our state moving again.”
The Labor Plan for Jobs and Growth is aimed at creating jobs for Victorian families, investing in skills and training and providing an infrastructure pipeline. Plans include:
- Funding for TAFEs and a crack down on unscrupulous training providers.
- Establishing Infrastructure Victoria to plan infrastructure priorities.
- Establishing Projects Victoria to deliver critical major projects.
“Victoria is losing jobs every day, so we need a plan for jobs, growth and skills that will protect our future.”
“I’m about priorities, not politics – while Governments come and go, our long-term infrastructure needs always remain.”
Daniel Andrews has been Opposition Leader for nearly four years and served as Health Minister for three years in the last Labor Government, as well as Consumer Affairs and Gaming Minister.
