So you have committed to becoming a registered builder. What’s next? You will need to set up your business, and we are here to help you.

Safety is of the utmost importance in running your business but is quite often neglected due to other areas being prioritised. We want to help protect the business that you are working so hard to get up and running, and we are always coming up with new ideas to help make compliance easier for our members.

We cannot stress enough the importance of getting on the front foot and implementing safety as a part of your business from the get-go. Safety will become second nature to you, and will develop as part of the day-to-day routine of running your business. Subcontractors will turn up to your projects knowing that safety is number one when they work with you.

As a Master Builders member, you are entitled to a number of free OHS services, which includes the OHS Essentials Program.

Master Builders members with fewer than 20 employees and a valid WorkCover Insurance Policy can receive up to three hours of free OHS advice from a member of the OHS Unit, courtesy of the WorkSafe-funded OHS Essentials Program. This service is available to members across Victoria and can be delivered at a member’s home or office.

During the session, we will provide you with advice around how you can meet your OHS legislative requirements and download a suite of recourses (smart things to have in your business), straight onto your computer.

You will receive:
• Policies and procedures
• Instruction in how to consult with workers about safety (toolbox meetings)
• What the key legal duties involve, particularly the Construction Regulations
• Engagement with WorkSafe inspectors
• Information on how to tackle safety in a small business over time
• Guidance on how to implement safety into your business.
