On 12 September, the Minister for Employment has flagged changes to worker entitlement fund governance rules by confirming the Government will introduce a Fair Work Amendment (Proper Use of Worker Benefits) Bill 2017 (the Bill).
In a press release, the Minister indicated that the Bill will seek to implement a number of recommendations arising from the Heydon Royal Commission to deliver greater transparency and accountability for Australian workers saying, “Australian workers have the right to know how the money being held on their behalf is being spent and why.”
The Bill is likely to be introduced into Parliament when it next sits in October. Master Builders will provide a further update once the details of the Bill are known.
