With the National Construction Code (NCC) 2016 scheduled to take effect on 1 May this year, the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) and Standards Australia have organised information seminars in major cities to familiarise users with revised features.

The sessions commence February through March and provide an opportunity to hear about and engage on changes, including:

  • Amendments to the NCC mandatory general provisions to help engender a performance mindset by improving clarity and highlighting choice
  • New verification methods for ventilation and structural robustness
  • New timber construction requirements for buildings up to 25 metres in effective height
  • New provisions for farm buildings
  • Amendments to the Housing Provisions for stairs, ventilation and new requirements for dwellings above garages.
