Lockdowns have occurred in South Australia and Sydney closing the building and construction industry and supply.
Last week, the NSW Government placed a ban on most construction, renovation and repair work in Greater Sydney as the state grapples with a COVID-19 outbreak.
The ban is expected to double the economic cost of the NSW lockdown.
The Commonwealth Bank's head of Australian economics suggests the restrictions in Sydney would cost $1 billion per week, but that was before the latest, tighter restrictions, including the construction halt.
The bank says new rough estimates predict the economic hit from the Greater Sydney lockdown will double, from $1 billion to $2 billion per week.
SA’s high-powered building lobby has also demanded answers as to why tens of thousands of workers were not spared from a seven-day statewide lockdown.
Master Builders SA chief executive Will Frogley said 72,600 people were employed in the state’s construction with the equivalent of 52,300 people working “on site” directly affected by the shutdown.
