MBV would like to advise Housing All Australians (HAA) has recently launched an economic report – Give Me Shelter – on the long-term costs of under-providing, social and affordable housing.
We encourage our members to attend the Give Me Shelter webinar on 2 August 2022 and learn more about the detail behind this report.
Australia has experienced decades of underinvestment in social and affordable housing. Give Me Shelter’s key findings demonstrate:
- Every $1 the Australian community invests in social and affordable housing will deliver $2 in benefits.
- If the housing shortfall is left unaddressed, the additional cost to Australian taxpayers will reach $25 billion annually by 2051.
- The benefits of providing adequate housing are estimated at almost $110 billion.
The issue to resolve homeless and the shortage of affordable housing is too big an issue for Government to solve alone. It requires $290 billion of investment. MBV strongly believes that our members and our industry play a crucial role in constructing the shortfall of homes for all Victorians.
HAA will be holding a national webinar on 2 August. This will be hosted by the Committee for Melbourne. The author of the report, Marcus Spiller (SGS Economics & Planning) will unpack the report and answer any questions. The webinar will be hosted from 1.00 pm – 2.00 pm (AEST).
