On behalf of our members, Master Builders Victoria has been working with our national office to advocate to National Cabinet for the building and construction industry to be included in the priority cohort, who can then be included in an immediate extension of the rules around critical workers, if deemed a close contact.
We understand that National Cabinet has agreed to further consider expanding the priority cohort sectors, which includes building and construction, pending further health advice.
Master Builders Victoria will continue to advocate how important our industry is to our economy and that for all Victorians who have a right to a safe built environment.
Our industry has been considered an essential service and have continued to demonstrate the ability to practice safely with minimal contact cases occurring in the workplace.
Building and construction also needs to be eligible for an exemption from close contact home isolation requirements to attend their workplace so contractual obligations for consumers can be delivered.
In the meantime, we believe that the expanded list will at least alleviate the pressures on transport of building materials.
As always, members requiring assistance are encouraged to call our Assist team on (03) 9411 4555.
