On Monday 29 November our Sustainability Advisor, Phil Alviano represented Master Builders Victoria (MBV) at the CSIRO Australian Residential Energy Rating Conference.
The Conference plays an important role in Australia’s energy sector, forging links between energy assessors, builders, architects, regulators, researchers, and academics.
With over 35 speakers, the topics examined energy efficiency from the perspectives of builders and energy assessors, looked at the future of regulations in this space, covered technical issues, and the rating of apartments and existing houses.
Phil’s session ‘Putting energy efficiency into practice – the builder perspective’ focused on the importance of working with people and addressing their concerns to encourage improved energy efficiency outcomes in housing.
He talked about how the Green Living Builder program at MBV has successfully increased industry interest in building energy-efficient homes by providing engaging training and practical solutions.
Phil highlighted a number of fantastic member projects (MBV's YouTube Channel) that are already delivering zero energy homes demonstrating the importance of providing more flexible rating tools to meet the same household energy use as the NatHERS rating in the NCC requires.
By providing more flexible tools such as a true whole of house rating builders and their clients are better able to juggle the NatHERS rating, appliances, air tightness, and onsite solar to allow for different designs, consumer preference, and site conditions.
Presentations like these are one way that we are able to present the MBV brand to a larger audience, promote our members and showcase the manner in which our builders work with their clients to produce outstanding projects.
