The arrangement, quality and interrelationship of spaces and flow throughout the home was considered when designing the floor plan, as well as having the living areas on the northern aspect of the home to increase energy efficiency and capture the impressive views. The orientation of each room, calculated eaves, use of recycled brick, carefully considered window placements, including large amounts of north-facing glass, and the use of double-glazed windows throughout all aid in enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of this home.
Gilchrist Property Group
Project: Holbrook Multisports Facility, HolbrookDesigner: N/APhotographer: N/AWebsite: https://gilchristhomes.com.au/Working with Greater Hume Shire Council as superintendent, alongside Rob Pickett Design as a principal design consultant, construction of Holbrook Multisports Facility commenced in July 2021 and was completed in May 2022. We worked throughout the build to ensure full coordination of the drawings provided and ensuring the end-users’ intent was achieved. At times, this meant a strategic negotiation of construction details provided, to ensure the best outcome. The building is an opportunity to excel at creating a space for this regional community to gather. Full concrete seal was added to all documented exposed concrete areas to additionally ‘finish’ the building to a better standard to serve the local community for years to come, with lesser maintenance and a better-maintained product.
Smith & Sons Renovations & Extensions Shepparton

Originally built on a farm in a different location, the home was transported to its current location in the 1970s. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home required updating to better suit their family needs. The extension included taking out the back of the home and existing kitchen, family, laundry and extending out to include a new large kitchen complete with a huge butler's pantry, walk-in linen closet, meals, living, study nook and laundry/mud room. The existing spaces were reconfigured to create flowing family spaces and an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe off the master bedroom.

The Homestead was built circa 1870 and is on the Victorian Heritage Register. The weatherboard building features soft curving archways, decorative dados and ornate ceiling roses. The home’s restoration has stripped away layers, honouring its original features and revealing a hidden history along the way. This includes handwritten notations and family crests uncovered in the process; now exposed and part of the intrigue of this important property. Significant efforts were made to preserve the properties history and to reuse heritage materials. Richly layered, the homestead celebrates a legacy and creates something remarkable for generations to come.

Inspire was designed to be a complete home ready to move into without expensive extras so that budget-conscious clients who wanted the quality of a Southern Vale home was achievable. The Nova design is a completely new design to the range. Thoughtfully designed with the growing family in mind, the Nova oozes livability at its finest. This design incorporates four large bedrooms with two separate living areas and open-plan living. The design simplicity of the roofline and 2400 ceilings has contributed to overall lower costings of the home to the owner.

There’s plenty of storage in this home, including a butler’s pantry and walk-in wardrobe in each of the four bedrooms, and a separate lounge offers the perfect spot for family movie nights, a formal lounge or kids play space. The addition of an alfresco off the meals area is also great for an indoor-outdoor dining experience.

This four-bedroom home is clad in weatherboards with timber reveals around the aluminium windows to provide a more cosy charm and a cottage-styled front entrance door with sidelights to allow natural light to filter through the hallway. A colonial-style panel lift garage door includes windows to aid natural lighting while supporting the style of the home. Externally, the home is painted slightly darker than the internal walls, with a front porch large enough to place an outdoor setting and watch the sunset. The undercover alfresco area sits on the eastern side of the house, protected from the hot summer sun and comes complete with abundant lighting, a large ceiling fan, a TV point and a gas bayonet for the barbecue.

This home is a juxtaposition between modern and traditional living - with a cottage/Hamptons look on the exterior, and the interior feel is bright, modern and sophisticated with the epitome of indoor/outdoor living. Starting at the inviting entryway, the house opens up through the main hallway to a large open plan, living, dining and kitchen space. The master area of this home includes a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, with custom window shutters for privacy. There are two more generous size bedrooms, a full bathroom and a separate toilet, which is adjacent to an additional lounge.

This home is unique in layout, considered in approach and bespoke in nature. The design encompasses four bedrooms, two bathrooms with two living areas and a centre courtyard bringing the landscaped views into almost every room of the home. Incorporating a foundational zoning ability, this home features two literal wings from the central living area. With 2700 high ceilings to all bedrooms and a pitching point of 3600 to the raked ceilings of the main living wing, light fills every aspect of this home.

The existing house on the site was demolished, and a four-bedroom, triple garage, extremely stylish and liveable home was designed. Externally, the home has industrial vibes through the use of recycled bricks and corrugated cladding. Internally, skillion-style roofs create impact, interest, and the perfect north-facing roof panes to maximise solar panels. The interior has a sleek contemporary feel boasting clean lines throughout - the use of raked ceilings, square set cornices and large expanses of glass are the perfect elements to create a simplistic but modern home environment.

The cinema room was also designed to act as a second lounge room for the family. The aim was also to enable working from home for both adults, in which two office/study spaces were included in the project design. There was also a focus on achieving high energy efficiency through double external walls, insulation and the addition of solar panels with all electric appliances being purchased for this home. The outdoor entertaining area was uniquely designed for the home to achieve a large proportion of privacy from neighbouring properties.

The three-gabled pavilion house is powered off-grid, and building materials were sustainably sourced through re-purposing wharf timbers and wharf skins for external cladding and recycled red bricks in the central wing, kitchen and butler’s pantry and as a feature behind the iron fireplace. The lining of the living, dining, kitchen and bedroom ceilings used locally sourced solid blackbutt adding to the rustic feel of Howqua. The installation of the many double-glazed doors and windows allowed uninterrupted views to the foothills of the Alpine country, with Mt Timbertop and Mt Buller in the foreground.

The two-storey home was designed to have a standout presence while ensuring privacy was not lost for the owners or neighbours. Floor-to-ceiling glass runs along the north side of the home with a zero-threshold finish from the internal dwelling, creating a seamless flow to the outdoor living space. The monochrome finish to the external of the home creates a modern and sleek finish that is eye-catching and sophisticated, even slightly minimalist in its west-facing street view.

The build team worked closely with the architects and owners to complete a range of works. The works included the house construction and aspects such as extensive electrical grid connection, plumbing services to water storages and working with the construction team associated with the breathtaking lap pool. With an intent to capture the 360-degree views from the ridgeline of the property, the clients were keen on balancing a need to maintain a farm-style ambience and functionality with a semi-industrial feel to the build. All zones in the house take advantage of the rural views via a high-end glazing package.

The home is an example of how housing can be energy efficient without compromising design possibilities or the level of finish internally. The project is loaded with features, both functional and aesthetic. It boasts a Nathers Star rating of 8.4 stars and has been submitted to the International Passive House Association (IPHA) to be a Certified Passive House. The house is absolutely independent of imported energy sources, and its facility for creating renewable energy goes beyond the normally low consumption of electricity taken from the grid by homes of similar specification. Thermal insulation provides effective thermal separation between the heated or cooled inside environment and the outdoors.

The brief for the homes was to be low maintenance for tenants and/or possible short-term accommodation. Thoughtfully designed with functionality, privacy, comfort and energy efficiency at the forefront, the properties are perfectly positioned to feature large amounts of natural light in the open living area, including a north-facing private outdoor area.

Project: WodongaDesigner: Southern Vale HomesPhotographer: Darcy Bishop - DZYR MarketingWebsite: https://southernvale.com.au/Southern Vale Homes were engaged to design and construct 12 new lifestyle retirement homes for over 55 occupants and provide continuing support to build out the existing development at the Wodonga Gardens Retirement Estate by ASPEN group. We worked closely with the new residents and the ASPEN group to ensure that all design aspects and new home selections were met and delivered on. As Wodonga Gardens Retirement Estate had existing dwellings, we were tasked with providing exterior and interior colours and selection solutions to fit in with existing homes, while working towards taking a slightly modern approach to the new homes to be built.
Gilchrist Property Group
Project: Holbrook Multisports Facility, HolbrookDesigner: N/APhotographer: N/AWebsite: https://gilchristhomes.com.auThe Holbrook Mulitsports Facility was the first major commercial project since forming Gilchrist Property Group in 2020. The project consisted of asbestos removal and demolition of the existing bar facilities on site, followed by construction of a new 1125sq m single-storey facility housing a large function room, commercial kitchen, and pairs of male and female Home & Away change rooms. The facility additionally entailed a small first-floor timekeepers’ box, umpires rooms, first aid room and public toilets. Built to last for extensive public use for generations to come, this building is a reflection of solid construction methods and public use.
